Hokitika is a small town on the west coast that is known for its driftwood art. We missed the driftwood art festival a few weeks ago (but fortunately didn't miss the wild game festival in a few weeks if we are keen with wild possum, boar and rabbit delicasies). The problem with driftwood art is that Charlie just sees rocks, sticks and sand and wants to play with all the "stuff.". You could tell this took MANY hours to create (replica of the NYC skyline, milk cow, teeter totter, etc) and I felt bad for any inadvertent destruction.
Weather for Saturday is clearing, they are no longer forecasting rain. We drove it yesterday and it was beautiful but actually quite hot... Not AS hilly as I feared, but when my training long runs have all been flat I'm a little concerned...
Next stop - glaciers!
